BAFTAS - by SPOB, a BAFTA voting member

We caught up with our  Head of Profesional Development... a BAFTA voting member, thoughts on this years BAFTAS, including her top films & must have looks for the year.

After watching 265 films in six months & attending many Q&A's with actors, writers and directors on their films. It was a joy to finally see the night arrive, a night that we all love so much to see many deserving actors coveted with the golden mask.

This year was truly a year to celebrate great cinematic achievements.

My top films

Drive
Shame
My Week with Marilyn
Extremely load and Incredibly close
We need to talk about Kevin
Senna
Tyrannosaurs
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Submarine
Attack the Block
Potiche
Moneyball

Ok I have to stop now as it sounds like an exception speech that has gone on too long....

Red Carpet

The Men

For the chaps this year on the BAFTA Red carpet it was all about velvet and silk trim collars, a scene not far from the set of a 1970's movie.

The Ladies

Monochrome was the theme for the night, with a little bit of old school glamour. I've put together a selection of my favourite looks from BAFTA 2012...

For colour and starlet quality Fearne Cotton stole the show. To create a similar look experiment with Precision Ink in Abyss, Eye Brow Cake in Thunder and Sheer Lipgloss in Torture.

For the ultimate in glamour we look to Meryl Streep. Lipstick in Test with Sheer Lipgloss in Ascend, Powder Blusher in Complex and Medium Pencil in Sophie will offer a similar statement glow.

All woman, Christina Hendricks in another figure hugging, show stopping dress. Flawless skin, fabulous red hair... The essence of vintage glam.

Tilda Swinton was channeling the look that I so want to rock.....With a striking Sam McKnight hair Creation. Powder Blusher in Complex is the perfect contour for this look.

The award for best make-up and hair team was Mark Coulier, Marese Langan and J. Roy Helland. For their work on the film, ‘Iron Lady’.

Iron Lady was a political triumph, refering the iconic Margeret Thatcher we knew from her time in Parliment. Full credits to the team for their outstanding work on this film. A big Illamasqua well done.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees for BAFTA 2012... We  look forward to seeing the upcoming releases and the make-up looks that follow.

Illamasqua Sponge Nails

Nail Artist Rebecca Wilson takes you through a quick and easy but effective nail art tutorial using best-selling Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Jo'Mina [electric lilac] and Milf [bright mint creme].

Why not give it a go for the perfect Friday night indulgence?

Your Alter Ego Gallery

The Valentine's weekend is upon us, there's no better time to express your individuality.

Kierra Thorn indulged in her alter ego at our counter in Myer, Sydney. Kierra wore our Medium Pencil in Severe & Lipstick in Diablo on her lips. This bright violet purple is our Nail Varnish in Poke.

Make-up artist Rebecca Yeates used Illamasqua make-up to create this mythical, avant garde look. Step out of this world and use Powder Blush in Sin, Powdered Metal in Erzule and Pure Pigment in Static to create a similar effect.

Guro Stålpus Tuft was inspired by our Sophie-I technique to create her own interpretation of the look to give it a night-time finish with Lipstick in Kontrol. Guro named her alter ego 'Kontrol Freak'.

Katy Short got creative with the pieces she bought from Illamasqua at IMATS this year. Were loving the flushes of orange. To create a similar look, use Powder Eye Shadow in Vulgar, Powder Eye Shadow in Yes! And Pure Pigment in Breathe to make the eyes POP!

Were looking forward to seeing your alter ego's next week!

Illamasqua Cream & Powder Blushes.

Illuminate, radiate, make your face come alive with the colour and drama of Illamasqua blushes. Colour-intense and highly pigmented, use it to shade, brighten, enhance and define the shape of your face. Be bold, be daring, be the centre of attention.

Here are just a selection of the Cream & Powder Blushes Illamasqua has to offer...

Powder Blusher in Excite
'It is densely pigmented blush and stays good 7 – 8  hrs on my face without fading and after that there is still signs of flushed cheeks . It is very soft and doesn’t need much of an effort to blend.' - Thanks to Indya Beauty for her thoughts on this blusher.

As our blushers are so pigmented, you only need a tiny bit to go a long way! All our blushers can also be used as an eye shadow or as a contour. Another great piece for contouring is our Cream Pigment in Hollow.

Cream Blusher in Rude

This is what Temptalia thought to this Cream Blusher - 'The texture, despite its creaminess, feels featherweight against the skin; it’s thin, comfortable to wear, and doesn’t feel greasy.'

Highlight your cheekbones, shape your face, build and blend with
fingers or a brush to create the colour intensity you desire.
Use over foundation for impact, or under for a captivating glow. However you apply it, be daring.

Powder Blusher in Morale

'Morale was a love at first sight for me. This is my first Illamasqua Blush and only makes me ask myself why haven´t I tried their blushes before? ...I love pink blushes and honestly this is one of the best I tried.' - Thanks to All You Desire for this quote.

This blusher is part of our Theatre of the Nameless collection, a collection which is based on the essence of self-expression that transformed 1920s Berlin, shop the collection hereApply our Powder Blusher in Intrigue above your blusher line to create a highlight.

The Sophie-I transformed...

Since the launch of the Sophie-I collection the blogosphere has been awash with your interpretations of the look, taking the technique and transforming it with different colourways and textures.

The Sophie-I technique has set a new mark for the traditional smoky eye, a classic look with an Illamasqua twist!

We wanted to share a selection of the stunning Sophie-I looks that have had us inspired...

Nihrida developed the Sophie-I by adding teals, warm lemon yellows and deep aquas. This defining look is fierce, yet feminine!

For a similar colour popping effect try pressing a little Powder Eye Shadows in Yes! onto the inner corners of the eye and applying Stalk and Anja to the outer corners before blending and fusing the colours together.

Samantha of Makeup Advice Forum shared another beautiful variation of the Sophie-I look. We love this interpretation, the shimmer of the pigments adds new depth and texture to the original Sophie-I look.

A favourite in Illamasqua HQ, Pure Pigment in Ore is a must for this look. Layer over Liquid Metal in Electrum for this intense and rich golden bronze. To finish, apply Powder Eye Shadow in Jules to the socket line.

Corallista's interpretation of the Sophie-I look is steely and luxe and illustrates how versatile the smoky eye can be. Powder Eye Shadows in Moonflower, Incubus & Soul will offer this metallic quality. Don't forget to use our Eye Brow Cakes wet or dry to finish off the look with a statement brow.

Thank you to everyone that has supported S.O.P.H.I.E with their own striking versions of the Sophie-I look. To read more about the Sophie Lancaster foundation click here.

You can also support the charity buy purchasing a Sophie wristband or the Medium Pencil in Sophie.

To share your interpretation of the Sophie-I, upload your look to the Illamasqua Facebook page here
